Bookmaking Artist Statement 10/19 Jessica Phrogus
Mainly my work is non linear. I put visions and experiences on paper, exploring a medium or a situation. It is only later that the summary of understanding presents itself to me. Making a book is a half way mark to completion of a thought. Bookmaking helps me to flesh out my intent, becoming more of an admittance of where I am going than where I had been.
My books range in size and scope. Some of them involve printmaking techniques such as intaglio, silkscreen, and letterpress. Others are hand-drawn with ink, acrylic and , chine colle”. Some are one of a kind, and others are printed in multiples. I think of these books as compliments to my art practice, which involves painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and multimedia art.
